I am so exited to share these next few Episodes with you and to talk about the new direction at KEW.
In this Episode I introduce the Uniqueness Paradox (UP). This is derived from my series arc about the Are vs Should Problem and why we feel this dissonance between who we are and who we feel like we are supposed to be.
Based on my research, as well as the Are vs Should Interview Series (links here) I came up with the UP.
Basically, our DNA evolved to create new, unique, different individual humans. In a way, we ‘should’ become these unique entities, differing in subtle ways that might help us succeed in our changing environment. The paradox arises in our culture, which operates to try to make us all the same. The conforming pressures of the outside world, often referred to as ‘domestication’ try to destroy our uniqueness and make us similar.
Societies who are all alike are easier to control and behave as better consumers. This facilitates easy government corruption as well as healthy capitalistic markets, but it can be a cruddy way to live.
I argue that many of the world’s problems; crime, war, poverty, hunger, depression, anxiety, etc. might be related to this suppression of the human spirit.
