What beliefs are you carrying around that no longer serve you?
Maybe you grew up in a religious household but no longer practice.
Maybe you were told that non-white people were bad, but you never understood why.
Maybe you believed you had to do whatever people told you to do and lost your sense of self along the way.
We learned a lot of things as kids (and as adults!), but no one ever asked us how we felt about it.
For example. If your parents were Baptist, they assumed you were also a Baptist.
If your friends were racist, they probably assumed you were also a racist, and maybe you thought you were.
If your boss tells you that all the workers drink on the job, maybe you started to also.
Maybe those examples aren’t that great, but hopefully you get my point.
A lot of what we BELIEVE as adults are things we never really thought about.
We never DECIDED to believe, we just did.
And, guess what? It turns out a lot of the issues and struggles we have in life stem from a dissonance between these things we were taught and how we actually FEEL. Turns out, what we actually BELIEVE might be incredibly different form what we THINK we believe.
And I, for one, think it is essential that we deal with these incongruities while we are alive to be the best humans we can be. Because this leads to integrity, and the lack of integrity can kill you.
