Have you ever heard anyone say, ‘it takes a village’?
Man, I have. And I wish I understood earlier what they meant.
When I was a full time stay-at-home dad, I felt totally isolated. My wife works 50+ hours a week. My parents were too old and far away to help. Her parents were too busy taking care of their other grandchildren. I wasn’t very good at navigating the moms at the playground or at the PTA. . . .
I needed some HELP.
I often wondered how all the moms did it, how other dads did it, and, really, how the human race made it this far.
Parenting is hard.
And so lots of people told me, ‘it takes a village’. Which, in hindsight was a passive-aggressive way for them to try and tell me I needed help? Maybe?
This week’s episode isn’t really about parenting. This is just an example to illustrate the point.
Everything we do takes a village.
Because we ARE a village. A global village. A universal village.
At the very least, your local community is your village.
And it seems we rely on these village resources less and less and less.
And more on our virtual villages. Our screens.
And I can say first hand that ignoring the village is a mistake.
Hopefully this Episode will do some small part to encourage all of us to reconnect.
